It's hump day and you're counting down the minutes until Happy Hour? Well hang in there, and get inspired with this cocktail video Angie created, with help from stylist Alexa Hyman and the team at Form & Fiction. It features some delicious ideas to get you through the week in style. Bottoms up!
A Topsy-Turvy Summer Palette
Who doesn’t love a vibrant Summer, especially if you can smell it or eat it? Combining colorful, fragrant flowers and delectable macarons, Angie and Kiana of Tulipina worked together to create this sensory collage of color. Grab your sunglasses…it’s going to be a bright sunshiny day!
“50 Best Plants on the Planet” book finally came out. We’re so excited! It’s packed with 150 simple yet luscious recipes, and beautifully photographed by Angie! It’s not a diet book, per se. More of a guide to packing the most good stuff into every bite in a scrumptious way.
Think you don’t like Brussels sprouts? Think again.
Try pan-searing them in a little butter and EVOO, let them caramelized, add some pistachios and dried cherries. Delish! You’re gonna be a believer.
Spring is almost here! We’re tossing flowers in the air like confetti and pulling our finest pair of bermuda shorts out of storage to celebrate warmer days. We’re also celebrating the new March issue of Yoga Journal, where you can find some spring recipes that Angie recently shot. Pick up an issue, make a green smoothie, and join us in welcoming spring back into our open arms.
Flowers, puppies, and sunshine: here are some snapshots from Angie’s Fall 2012 promo shoot. With the help of food stylist Fanny Pan, prop stylist Lara Ritch, and floral designer Kiana Underwood, the shoot was full of beautiful details and rich colors.
Stay tuned for finished promo photos later in the week!
Agency Access Features Angie Cao
Agency Access recently sent out a huge email blast to highlight their design services, and we were delighted to see some familiar photos in our inboxes. Agency Access chose to promote the design work they did for Eric J Reps’ website, and they featured a couple of Angie’s food photos.
Wunderbar!
If for some crazy reason you’re not on the Agency Access mailing list, here’s a peek at what you missed:
Coming to a Mailbox Near You!
We’ve been spending the last several months working on Angie’s new look, and we finally have a brand new snail mail promo to show. Our fingers are numb from stuffing envelopes and arranging postage stamps, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re so excited for these 18x24" posters to arrive in mailboxes across the country.
Holler if you want one!
Did you hear the joke about the peanut butter?
We’re not telling you. You might spread it!
Your stomach is probably aching from laughing so hard, so why not sooth it with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Yesterday Angie spent some quality time reminiscing about her childhood with these sweet and sticky finger foods. Just like that awful joke, this meal is best suited for the fun-loving kid in all of us.
It’s been a busy month so far at the studio with all the projects that Angie and Howard are juggling. We’re starting to recover from last week’s whirlwind cookbook project, where we worked with prop stylist Christine Wolheim and food stylist Fanny Pan to create some photos of healthy recipes full of pretty produce. It always makes big projects seem quick and easy when we’re working with a fantastic team, and all the excitement has us eager to share the beautiful images that we made together. Since we can’t do that quite yet, here are some snippets of what our week was like:
- Our fridge overfloweth with produce
- A late night soup emergency
- An unexpected birthday and celebratory tiramisu
- AC/DC jam sessions
- New multisyllabic words to add to our vocabulary that make us feel smart (just ask Christine to use “bimorphic” in a sentence)
- Sage advice on how to remove giant wine stains from white T-shirts
- Accidental wardrobe coordination
The week’s bustling activity had us in such a tizzy that the only way we could properly wind down was with a classy glass of cat wine. Meow!
Holidays According to Angie
Angie’s new wintery photo makes us want to kick back and stuff our faces with holiday cheer. The food was styled by Fanny Pan, and Christine Wolheim was our wonderful prop stylist. We hope your holidays are delicious!
Angie's Diabolical Sweet Tooth
When your morning starts with cupcakes, gumballs, and sugar pearls, you know you’re in for a good day. Angie loves photographing cute sugary things for two reasons:
- She has a big fat sweet tooth.
- She is determined to send the entire studio into diabetic shock.
Angie begins every shoot just like every other photographer. She stretches, does a few jumping jacks, throws punches in the air while singing the lyrics to “Eye of the Tiger,” and pets her camera for good luck.
Angie actually has “mad bow tying skillz” listed on her resumé.
The following photo shows Angie hard at work while Dan ignores her cries for help and stares at cupcakes. So typical.
Eventually we all caved to the pastry pressure and treated ourselves to some post-photoshoot sweetness. We finished the day with smiles on our faces and jitters in our bones. Yet again excessive sugar intake marks another successful day at the studio!
Happy T.Hanksgiving!
Angie hit the road on and is on her way to bellies full of food, and we hope you’re on a similar quest. Regardless of whether you’re traveling far and wide for the perfect spoonful of cranberry sauce or staying home with a Hungry Man TV dinner, we hope you have an awesome holiday. Cheers!
Fanny and Angie: Photoshoot Shenanigans
Angie and Fanny Pan (food stylist extraordinaire) got together on Tuesday to make some magic.
Angie was excited about using her brand spankin’ new view camera.
Angie ruins another Kodak moment:
Calling Giggles McGee to the set!
Fanny was finally able to get some work done once Angie stopped picking on her.
Angie has so much enthusiasm for photography that it shoots out her toes. Composing her shots on her tippy toes is the only way she can harness her power.
The hardest part of the day was choosing the right spoon for the job.
Decision time:
Prepping for Fall
The San Francisco summer is in full effect, but our heads are stuck in the future. Angie teamed up with food stylist Fanny Pan and prop stylist Daniele Maxwell to work on creating a photo for her upcoming fall promo.
The day began with some beautiful, refreshing snap peas. Yum!
Fanny artfully arranged our green bean salad. Working with a great food stylist is like having a gourmet cook, a world class puzzle solver, and a fine art painter all rolled into one.
Angie and Fanny took a moment for a quick meeting regarding radishes.
After lots of serious discussion and a few charts and graphs, Angie took some photos and evaluated her radishes. Are they too squatty? Are their stems perfectly green and perky? Do their tails look too ratty? Cao Studio is an equal opportunity employer, but unfortunately this does not apply to root vegetables. Those poor radishes had to face some serious Top Model scrutiny.
Fact #1: Angie has a background in circus acrobatics. After checking to make sure her life insurance policy was up to date, she combined her circus training with her photography training to entertain us while she snapped some shots.
Fact #2: that first fact wasn’t entirely true.
Studio clamps and gaffers tape may not make an appetizing meal, but they serve as great stand-in models for light and focus tests.
Daniele stepped in for some final adjustments to the props. She did a great job finding props to match our cool color palette.
Today’s shoot was a total success! We had such a great creative team that collaborated to make these fall promo photos unique. We can’t wait to show everyone the final images.
Angie is Eating Wisely
Although the September issue of Yoga Journal has been out for a few weeks, we’re finally getting around to bragging about Angie’s beautiful photography in the Eating Wisely pages. Angie worked with food stylist Karen Shinto to create these bright and playful photos that inspire us to grab a chair and scoot towards the kids’ table.
What's for lunch?
It’s that time of day when our bellies start to grumble and the all-important question dances around in our heads: what’s for lunch? Today we’re craving pizza, so we’re torturing ourselves by looking at these tasty photos that Angie recently shot with food stylist Alexa Hyman. Mmmm…
This just in: cake stencils are rad.
Chronicle Books just released this adorable cake stenciling kit, photographed by our very own Angie Cao. If you don’t like cute things, then please avert your eyes right now.
